If you don’t have time to meditate for 10 minutes, then really you have to meditate.

I definitely feel like meditation gives me more time in my life, simply because I’m more aware of the moment. I realized my productivity increased when I meditated simply because time felt more on my side. Practicing mindfulness not only brings you more into the moment, it’s therapy.

Unfamiliar to mindfulness meditation? Check out my favorite go-to-&-calm-down video.

Ok, I know its pretty cheesy, but it works. Studies show that meditation reduces stress and can actually change your brain. That’s right, change your brain, as in, make it stronger. Some even think it can increase fertility or reduce risk of cancer.

Look up other guided meditation videos if this one doesn’t melt your butter. Or if you are really interested, I recommend YogaGlo.com. Costs $18 per month (they have a 15 day free trail as well), but either way YogaGlo is cheaper than a gym membership and cheaper than actual physical meditation or yoga classes. Plus, you can take these classes anywhere!

According to this survey by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 8% of the population uses meditation. CBS news reported this year that the number of Americans who feel extremely stressed as increased from less than 3% of the population to 3.4%, and its still growing. “Mental illness is on the rise. Suicide is on the rise. And access to care for mentally ill is getting worse,” said research manager of NYU Langone Medical Center, Judith Weissmen. Check out the rest of the CBS article here. Another great article to check out is by Brigid Schulte with the Washington Post. “You’re missing out on your experiences. A meditation expert explains how to live in the moment.”

Incase you want more reasons, check out this article by Wanderlust. Don’t be afraid to empty your mind. If anything it’ll be more freeing.
